CREATING A SPECIAL PLACE

In this lesson, students were prompted to create an image of a place that is important or significant to them. The students worked with only pencil and eraser in order to focus on values and composition. These creations would go on to inspire future artwork that includes colors and other mediums.

After the lesson ended, students took turns explaining their place, why they chose to include it, and what decisions they made when creating their artwork.  During a discussion, students shared ideas about their places. Some students had places in common, while others depicted places in different parts of the world and told us of those experiences.
